"There are four different explanations of the word spirit. One meaning is essence. The second meaning of spirit is what is understood by those who call the soul spirit when it has left the body on earth and has passed to the other side. The third meaning is that of the soul and mind working together. It is used in this sense when one says that a man seems to be in low spirits. And the fourth meaning of spirit is the soul of all souls, the source and goal of all things and all beings, from which all comes and to which all returns." -- Hazrat Inayat Khan

Really?
Interesting you bring this up as I recently looked into why Alcohol is referred to as "spirits" Alcohol comes from the Arabic term "Al-Kuhl" - which translates to "body eating spirit" Since awakening, I have sensed this myself as I initially experimented with it, in an attempt to calm myself down from the intensity of this process, only to notice that I didn't have such a positive experience, as well as noticing that I felt very depleted after. It does not pair well with the kundalini process.
