I've never liked the words used to describe the two sources of consciousness within us. Cosmic consciousness arising from the "True" self or the "Higher" self. Personal consciousness arising from the "False" self or the "Lower" self. Sufi master Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan expounded “stereoscopic consciousness,” toggling between the cosmic and personal points of view to extrapolate a perspective which encompasses both. I would say that cosmic consciousness arises from my "Creator Self" and personal consciousness arises from my "Created Self".

Yes there are the source and the structure of our self - the source is "higher", and the structure is "lower". We experience our reasons, but we turn it into a machine and habits. Our mind gets better as we shred a light of consciousness and awareness on this machine.
Just as rich people do simple things, like eating for vitamins and running for health, a mentally advanced people must do simple things, like developing stable mental structures, which work as machines. In all cases, it's good to become rich, if you don't give away other things - but not to stop being human. In myself I see yin and yang, negative and positive, and I understand their existence. I have to develop each function and integrate it to whole - so, I have to develop my higher and lower functions and integrate them into whole.
I worked to give my ego away to reach something higher, times ago. Then I reached the higher, but now I work to create more enlightened ego structures - which would be automatic and develop stability in my life, but still aware and conscious so that they are different from what I had. I want to integrate the material world and create stability, an instinct, which keeps it together. This, because this aspect has been falling apart.
Many people talk about raising the vibrations, but generally less people about getting all frequencies unblocked and let each frequency grow. A fear, which we experienced completely, with calmness and observation, going through it in meditation without letting it break our mind - it's much better than a fear, which we suppressed through medication and visualization of bliss. Experienced fear becomes it's own solution, which indeed raises the vibration of low vibration itself, and our calmness becomes tough and not empty. Given that we are not people, who then have "seen something" and run from doctor to doctor to become fun-centered again, and who lost something. I meditate to go through all my fears, pains, angers, feelings of loss or bad future scenarios - until I have the Zen to let go, the Tao to see good in bad, and the calmness coming from clarity, not the calmness coming from ignorance.
